Spring is in the air and the festival world awakes “The Rockabilly”
fans are by and large gradually preparing their quiffs for the evening
events, and "Rockin Inferno Wetteren", "Rockin Around Turnhout",
"Rockabilly Sunday Afternoon, Auvelais" seem to be the most
suitable places to be (see concert calender).
It’s unfortunate that The Rock-A-Bops aren’t yet on any posters,
as this newest rockabilly sensation from Sweden have lit up
the holy rock ’n roll fire with their débutalbum “Wild Child”.
Lee Chandler Pickett's " Tree Top" is the perfect opening for half
an hour of authentic late 50's Rock & Roll, nicely spiced by several
own creations which easily compete with obscure covers as
Tony Casanova's "Showdown", "Beat Out My Love" (Lee Dresser), and
"Petrified" (Mel Tilis, Collin Kids).
It’s "Constant Rock & Roll Fool" & frontman Tom Backlund shows
us "Baby ...I don't wanna let you go" with his "Wild Child" and "His(My)Girl"
called "Suzanne" or "Boppin Jane". They are not afraid to take risks
implementing “Tell Me, who's your man" and "They Wanna fight?"
says it all. Fortunately "The Cotton Pickin' Mama" is on the spot to calm
down the crowd and create a happy ending. The dreamt 'Movies" scenario
is foreseen with 15 brilliant soundtracks by The Rock-A-Bops. If you, as does the
author, like Sonny George & The Planet Rockers, The Black Nights and
Ronnie Hayward, then The Rock-A-Bops is your thing ... seen and being seen
...July 20th 2008 in Cafe The Rambler, Eindhoven (NL).

The Rock-A-Bops - Wild Child
Tail Records
A lot of Rock'n'Roll is what this quartet from Stockholm offers us,
which quickly hooks you with 15 songs that are well played and fun
to listen to. There's not a moments boredom and they trace perfectly
the spirit and sound of their idols with such good songs as "Tree Top"
which opens the cd. A good Rock'n'Roll song with smart vocal harmonies.
Maybe you might miss the double bass, but there is just as good feeling
with an electric bass. The next track is "That's just what I mean" which
reminds one of a mid tempo rocker by Jerry Lee.
"Suzanne" sounds
completely like a Rock'n'Roll standard with a strong Chuck Berry influence.
In my opinion the best track is " In the Movies", a British style rocker from the
early 60s, perfect to dance to. "Wild Child" is the title track, with a catchy
beat and more of a standard sound.
"They Wanna Fight" sounds very primitive
and is straight from the stoneage."Constant Fool" gives you an appetite to dance
again with a frenetic Rock'n'Roll beat."Beat out my Love" a good
cover of the song by Lee Dresser & the Krazy Kats concludes the album.
